ICE Raids and continuing to show up seeking glimmers of hope.

Well, I was going to have a newsletter come out today after a solid chunk of time with me staying silent and not knowing what to say - but the National Guard might be called on my city as ICE raids are happening to the good people of Los Angeles.

And my sensitive soul is over here crying that we even have to protest this nonsense.

But what can we do in the face of all of this?

Return to our standards and our joy, now more than ever.

This country, this government, doesn’t care about its people. It doesn’t even know who the real people of the United States are. It’s like watching my teenage girl drama all over again - but this time with grown men.

I recently went on an amazing trip to the jungle of Costa Rica, and if it taught me anything, it was that humans as a species are absolute trash.

How symbiosis exists in the natural world - how everything grows together, creates and dies, and grows again - all feeding off each other - makes our destruction that much more apparent.

But I also went to the most magical wedding last weekend with some wonderful humans from my Rave Fam, and the amount of joy and love expressed not just between the couple but that was felt through everyone there was beautiful. And I felt a part of it.

So, while I sit here blowing some boogers and drying my eyes over the utter stupidity of men, I am also so deeply grateful that there are good people out there and that I have gotten to experience a part of that love.

All this to say, if you have been struggling this year, I see you. I am, too.

But if I have learned anything in my 40 years on this planet, it’s to keep showing up, one day, one moment at a time.

And lean into what you do have. Be grateful for the little glimmers of love and beauty that you get to touch and be a part of - those are the moments that matter.

I’ve been talking recently on my multitude of platforms about setting baseline standards of health to implement, and these are the things I have been clinging to.

My Baseline Standards

  • Morning Walk 5,000 steps
  • Hydration 3 - 4 30oz jars/ day [100 - 135 oz]
  • Protein 125 - 130g/ day: 32 - 33g x 4 meals
  • Carb, fiber (veggies) to support intensity of activity
  • 3-4 lifts/wk following progressive overload
  • Sleep 7-8hr/ night
  • Weekly Journal: Gratitude, what went well, what didn’t, what could be improved and how, My goals, Affirmations, Intentions
  • Cardio: Run or Cycle 40 min 2 - 3/ wk
  • Additional 5,000 steps: 25x2
  • Yoga, breath work, meditation
  • Play

These are things that I’m either already implementing in my life or that I am working to improve. I also dropped a somewhat deranged podcast episode where I share more about these; check that out here.

What are four health behaviors - the core 4 - that you can make baseline standards to hit every day that bring you back to your body and make you feel grounded, focused, alive, and in your power?

Thanks for being here.

The winter arc era is upon us. Instagram is filled with coaches selling you their programs to help you stay on track through the holidays. We even have people already selling you into 8-week shred programs starting in the New Year. And while I’m all for health and fitness challenges to motivate you - I am taking a much more laid-back approach to my health this season, and I think you should t0o. The world seems to be crashing and burning around us, both literally and figuratively, and I don’t...

I was listening to a podcast the other day on my walk, and one of the speakers talked about how she had gotten to her success in life because she had acted as if “she had the audacity of a white man.” And that struck a chord. How often do us, gender minorities, stay small, speak less, accept less, ask for less, and compromise our own well-being to make other people comfortable? I have been going through it these past few months and so much of my stress would be alleviated if I just set...

You do NOT need to do everything perfectly in order to get results. You just need to do a few things mostly well and consistently. I went through a bulk (where I was eating in a surplus to put on muscle) a couple years ago and I had a spreadsheet where I was tracking probably 20 different metrics - steps, sleep, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, my cycle, sleep, hydration, energy, measurements, weight, my lifts etc… And it while I THRIVE in data - even for me it was overwhelming each week to have...
